If you have a backyard pool or an outdoor living space, then chances are there will be times of the year in Torrance, CA, that you will want a patio umbrella to help block the hot sun. Umbrellas are an inexpensive way to add a little shade to your yard while adding charm and style. Umbrellas come in many different sizes, styles, colors, weights, and shapes to best cover and enhance your patio and patio furniture. At ABC Pool & Patio, we know that buying a cheap umbrella will end up with you chasing umbrellas across the yard and not enjoying your time outdoors. Investing in a quality umbrella is a safer bet. The style you choose and the area you want covered will affect what size you end up choosing.
What Size to Pick
When selecting the perfect umbrella, you should consider the span and height of the umbrella, and the weight of the base. If your umbrella is going over a table, a general guideline is that the umbrella should extend 2 feet beyond the table so that people seated at the table are covered with shade and not just the table. For example, a 4-foot table needs an 8-foot diameter umbrella. The umbrella height should be high enough so that a tall individual doesn’t have to stoop. Seven feet is a good height in most situations. Lastly, the base of the umbrella needs to be heavy enough, or you’ll be chasing it around the yard. A few suggested base weights include 20 pounds for smaller table umbrellas around 6 feet or 50 pounds for a 7.5-9 foot umbrella. As you consider buying the perfect umbrella to cover your patio furniture, you will be well equipped to make a great purchase.
